Let me start with a little side observation which has nothing to do with the post coming up - have you ever woken up in the morning and felt like you just lived an entirely different life in your dreams which felt so real that you can't believe you're still in the same place after waking up?! My dreams are so vivid that sometimes I can't believe they didn't happen! My imagination conjures up images which seem so close to reality that I feel like I'm actually living in my dream.. Ofcourse I'm not talking about scary dreams like running behind a train and missing it, or snake dreams or dreams when you think you're running but you're still in the same place.. these "dreams" every one knows are not real - they are manisfestations of some fear or desire we have in our sub-conscious mind..
But the dreams I'm talking about are for example about meeting people, being with people, doing stuff together.. It's like living a life with them and then suddenly snapping out of it.
Long time back, when I was in school, I remember I was waiting for a letter (those were the days there was no internet.. I'm talking '94 guys!) from a friend (the guy that I met when I was 14!)... I remember rushing back from lunch to check if I have mail.. I didn't... I went to sleep for a while, next thing I know, I had come back from lunch, there was mail for me, and I read he whole damn letter!! I read word for word what he had written, and happy, I went for classes... and then woke up... it was too weird! I was looking around for the letter on my bed but couldn't find one... That left me very dazed! Ofcourse next day the letter came, and it didn't have anything in it that I had dreamt of the previous day, so I was assured that atleast I'm not weirdly clairvoyant or psychic, just weird!
Last night, I dreamt about meeting my really old friend who I had lost touch with (I'm sure this is because I read Nutty's latest post just before sleeping!!), and I could picture her so clearly, I even had a mental idea of what her kid looked like even though I haven't seen my friend in 4 years now! When I woke up, I was like - Didn't I just meet her?!
Sometimes I wonder which one is the "real" reality... what if the life we dream of when we're sleeping is the real one, and the one we think we're living is a dream?! What if you had another family somewhere in the universe, another job (which was more satisfied and paid more!), different friends, a separate life?
I guess I'm watching too many movies.. Which reminds me to come to the point of my post.. We have a new surround sound stereo system at home (my aunt's place, and I had no contribution in this), and they've redone their family room to make it very home theatre like.. so we've been watching movies every single evening the whole of this week... The one movie that struck me the most was Deja Vu... I'm totally fascinated by the bending time, meeting of the past and present, parallel futures concept! I mean, imagine if you could go back in the past, change the course of some events and have a different present? Or have 2 presents running parallely together? Which ties back to what I was saying earlier in the post - what IF your dreams are the different "present" and your life when you're awake is the "other" present?
Right. I get your point. I need rest. But remember, this is a Saturday morning and I did wake up early again, though it was 8 this time! So... I've got nothing better to do right now other than thinking about time travel!

hiya! wotever u said bout dreams being reality is fascinating. I have often thot n similar lines. And I often experience a sense of dejavu! Its an incredible feelin..
And u keep writing!
Hee hee. Good one. Even if you think that you need rest. :D It does happen to me; I have recurring dreams when I really desire something. Sometimes, it is not so evident to my conscious self and I wake up surprised that I want something so badly ! But a dream, like reality, can change colors. And often, something loses its significance when it doesn't happen in the right frame of time. Waking up to your present frame of 'reality' is fortunate. Imagine living too long in a parallel universe where things are too different. Even if they are better elements, viz absolute primogeniture to a billionaire or a monarch, or dating someone like Brad Pitt looks in Meet Joe Black ;), I'd still like to see what I can do after I wake up to make my present state of affairs a little better. :)
There was a question in my 10th Board Maths paper which i was not able to solve in the exam ...and i was very disappointed by it ..could not sleep for the next few days ...then one day it happened !! I solved the entire thing in my dreams ...I dont know if the answer was right or wrong but never for a moment i doubted my reasoning and logic .And even till date , I clearly remember the problem and my 'dreamy' solution !!
Anyways , my point is that I feel our dreams are mostly nothing but a reflection of what we think/want/have /could not have/could have had ............and so on !!!!
Now GO ..REST !!
Hmmm looks like you need to hit the bed again!!!! Or start your vacuum cleaner. : )
ya right....
get a good sleep and try to make it dream-free :P
when you are not happy with the reality then only you look for alternate reality (even if just in your thoughts.. and this is true for almost every individual)
wo kehte hain naa... Yeh Dil maange more !!! dimaag bhi thora demand kar deta hai.
when u think of something/someone too much.. they do start coming in dreams...
you remember your dreams ? cool may be you are psyhcic, i can never remember my dreams :-(
i have to say ,this waiting for the letter story (or dream ) is very filmy :-)
I have had some really "real" dreams...but that's really scary...cause that makes you wonder whether what you dream about is what you really want...when your rationale mind is not working overtime. Hmmm
hmm a topic to ponder with..
It used to happen wit me somtimes though .:)
Nice post
how true!
most people find it difficult to remember their dreams, so its great when you find someone who is able to do so!
i suppose our need to time-travel tends to increase when we wish we had done something differently or have certain regrets.
your style of writing is very light and yet absorbing. it flows well. keep blogging!
I know EXACTLY what you mean. There are many dreams I've had that are so vivid I can still remember colours and textures many years later.
Funny thing though - I don't think I ever smell anything in a dream. All other senses are intensely active except for that one.
I never realized that until right now. How weird is that?
have u ever felt a sense of deja vu when u go to some place and observe something and sense that u have seen/been in the situation before .. it has happened a couple of times in the recent past .. ( no i am not talking about being thrown out of class repeatedly :P)
ps: long time since i visited ur blog .. been a bit too busy ( read LAZY) post IIM A ..
heya....i'm back from my disappearance. :-)
-Ram.
Awesome... two worlds... two families.. two wives. And they dont even know the other exists!! =D
Talking about Deja Vu.... and liking the concept, I think you should watch the Butterfly Effect... you will rethink your theory!
love the title SS!
I rem my dreams, especially the ones that somehow come true...and it happens often!
Take it easy hun...HUGS!
Keshi.
You're not far from the Truth according to the Bhagvad Gita which says this life is a dream, this world is make-believe.
PS: Oh, and I'm blogrolling you!
so true man........happens with me all the time
if u liked deja vu u'll love frequency...i loved it...simply loved the concept of being able to connect to the past and changing everything......
and yes i too keep thinking about these things....actually i keep thinking the entire world is playing a part around me, that the min people go out of my site they cease to exist and this entire thing is to test me only for some reason
:)
don't think about my posts so much also that they seep into your sub conscious and haunt you while you sleep :P
:D
I can relate with you on the dreams bit though .. I get some very real very scary dreams and I can't count the number of times I have woken up crying or afraid .. only to realize its still the middle of the night and I was only dreaming :)
`pointblank
i know! dejavu is a weird but awesome feeling... i dont know what's the root cause of having these are though! wish i knew!
`aparna
yeah, sometimes ur dreams can tell you a lot about urself and ur life!
`s
i know exactly what u mean! has happened to me too! u're right, dreams are dreams because they're aspirations in some way...
`jollyroger
lol! dont worry, i got enough sleep :)
`adarsh
its' not necessarily that u're not happy with what u have currently... but u aspire to have more... it has to come out somewhere or the other!
`cool
thankfully there's no "someone" right now to torture me! :)
`ir
filmy?! lol! yeah then i guess there are a lot of filmy things in my life! :) i can rem some dreams as if they happened really.. not sure if that's a good thing or not!
`chaits
lol! yeah it's kinda scary... with me i usually know what i want, and so it doesnt come as a surprise when i happen to dream of it!
`indrajit
yup, worth pondering about.. it's so interesting!
`juice
thanks!! i'm not sure whether it's a good thing that i rem my dreams so vividly! but one can want to change the past even if one doesn't regret something as such.. u know, just to see what would have happened if u went the other way..!
`mahogany
i dont think i rem smelling anything either... i dont think it's weird.. or maybe it is!
`raghav
yeah i think it's been ages! u must keep visiting! i know exactly how u feel, and its so weird because u're so sure that u have not been there ever before in ur (present) life!
`rama
oh good! nice to have u back!
`apoo
i think u should concentrate on finding ONE wife first! :P I guess now i have atleast couple of more movies to watch...
`keshi
thank you for noticing the title! i thought it was quite clever! :))
`d
ty for blogrolling me! and u're absolutely correct, i thought of the Gita too many times while writing this post!
`zee
amazingly i think the same thing many times! i'm like, what happens to someone when they leave my sight.. it's like do they exist, what is their life? why are we all in each other's lives in snapshots?! lol.. cant believe we thought of the same thing!
`nutty
for the fact that i nearly dedicated this post to you, u're very late in commenting!! lol! dont worry, i didnt do anything about my dream.. didnt call anyone... so much for motivation! thankfully i've never woken up crying or scared.. or maybe once i woke up crying and it was very strange!
I knw what you talkin about....the title of ur post had me thnking..So i had stopped reading after title..n thought to myself that me ganna guess whats in it...thought up few things...yes this was one of them...
:)
Amazing!
Was a great read!
and how r u doing?
next time watch psycho and dracula before you go to sleep..hehehe..
on a serious note the title is super!! very much apt for the post..
For me dreams are those things which run in the sub conscious which normally leaves people unconscious in typical conscious conditions...simple aint it!!;-P
hey, I was so about to say "Deja Vu" and talk about the movie but you dog you had me by the sneakers. I think that is a very very nice movie but incidentally did not do that well.
But now coming to your rather well written note, Dreams are the manifestations of what we as a superhero could not do in real life. Also, in all your dreams you would be the central character - without you doing the main role or the small role like Night Shamalan. So yea pretty much like the earth revolves around you sorts :D
But these less said the better because again we hardly remember half the dreams and stuff so yea I think both you and I need some time off ;)
1. This blog has almost same title as one of my friend has.... future imperfect and present tense...
2. When I started to read, I felt like listening Morpheus giving discourses to Neo, "what if you never wake, how will you able to tell between dream and reality"
3.Sometimes dreams are so realistic and fascinating, i mean i love day dreaming more than one at night..ha ha.
3. I am not sure but if you have not seen 13th floor and Butterfly effect, do watch them, i would rate them better than Deja-Vu.
Heya. how have you been??
`standbymind
lol! i think the title is quite clever, atleast gives a good idea what i'm going to talk about! i'm doing good.. havent seen u here in my space for a long time!
`mathew
am i weird, or did i actually understand what you said!? lol! makes sense i tell you! thanks, i liked the title too :)
`vik
hehee, yeah deja vu happening when you read the post! u're right, dreams are manifestations of powers that we dont possess but would love to have, i think... atleast the good dreams... ure' right, we may both need rest if we are agreeing with each other!
`thakur
wow! who is this friend of yours? i must read his/her blog! nice to see 2 people can think so alike! i guess many people are fascinated by the whole past present future continuum concept, thats why so many movies and maybe blogs about it! i can see lots of people recommend butterfly effect, will watch it... havent heard about 13th floor but sounds too scary for me! btw, thanks for coming by my blog!
`rama
been great, but too busy in life! haven't come around to reading blogs in quite a few days..
